US publishing bigwig, Electronic Arts, is saying goodbye to Anthem next year. Yep, come January 12th, 2026, it’s going offline. Didn’t see that coming… or maybe I did. Anyway, they’ve announced on their site that you won’t be able to snag any new in-game currency after that. But hey, if you’ve got some premium coins rattling around, you can still use ‘em. Kind of a parting gift, I guess.
And here’s the thing, EA tossed out some gratitude: “We deeply appreciate your dedication, passion, and support over the years and we’d like to thank you for that,” they said. Makes me wonder how many people are giving them a slow clap while reading that.
Apparently, no jobs were lost in this whole Anthem hullabaloo, or so they claim. But, truth be told, who knows what’ll roll out later? Job security’s a wild ride these days, isn’t it?
Anthem was supposed to be the big kahuna for BioWare and EA—a live-service game that hit the scene in early 2019. Spoiler alert: it didn’t exactly light the world on fire. In fact, post-launch chatter revealed the development was kind of a hot mess. By the end of 2019, BioWare piped up about wanting to give Anthem a makeover. They even teased something called Anthem Next. But, yeah, that didn’t pan out.
Oh well. Life goes on.
