Alright, so it’s smack in the middle of the week—yeah, Wednesday—when a new name pops up from PlayStation’s ever-expanding lineup. Meet teamLFG. They say “hi,” don’t worry, they’re probably not biting. Only the high-ups do that sort of thing, right?
Anyway, Sony’s crafty as ever, and they’ve got this shiny new post on the PlayStation Blog. Hermen Hulst, who’s pretty much the dad of this whole operation, is showing off his latest pride and joy. Well, unless things sink in the tumultuous seas of live service games. Then who knows?
So, this teamLFG squad, and by the way, it stands for “Looking For Group,” not the cheeky version you’re maybe thinking of. They’re camped out in Bellevue, Washington. A quirky mix of fresh faces and seasoned vets who’ve dabbled in Destiny, Halo, and stuff like League of Legends. Basically, they’ve got Bungie’s fingerprints all over them.
Their claim? They say they’re all about thrilling action-packed gameplay and immersive social worlds. Their mission? To craft games where you can bond with fellow gamers. Friends? Maybe. Frenemies? More likely.
Now, PlayStation’s been diving headfirst into live-service waters. So yeah, teamLFG’s marching in that direction too. Their first project? Kicking off with something that’s supposedly a mix of fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, even a touch of life sims—and yes, “frog-type games.” Whatever that means. Seriously, “frog-type”? Not like Frogger, but… something else frog-ish. Color me curious, even if I don’t totally get it.
Their debut experiment is a team-based action adventure, settled in a mythic, sci-fi fantasy realm. Lighthearted and comedic, they say. They’ve been chatting about this since, well, the Bungie layoffs got mentioned.
Picture this: A blend of Tekken’s punch, Mario’s jump, Dota 2’s chaos, and in some zany universe, maybe even mixing in Crazy Frog. Yeah, remember him? Mid-2000s wildness. And who knows if he fits that ‘frog-type’ bill?
But what they do seem set on is early access playtests and getting lots of player feedback. Crowd-sourced chaos, anyone?
So, is a Crazy Frog kind of Overwatch-slash-Fortnite-thing what PlayStation’s been missing? Curious to see what teamLFG brews up? Share your thoughts below, or just silently ponder while you scroll on.
