Okay, so picture this: Rob Yescombe — the guy who helped birth this wild VR game, The Invisible Hours back in 2017? Yeah, he’s got the rights back. What does that mean? Well, maybe we’re getting a shiny new version for today’s VR gear. Oh, and maybe even a TV show or movie. Wild, right?
So, I read somewhere, Hollywood Reporter I think, that Yescombe’s hunting for partners to spin The Invisible Hours into film or TV magic. This game does this thing that’s like… imagine Agatha Christie cozies up to the game Clue. You peek in, a fly on the wall during a mysterious island mansion murder. Sounds bonkers, yeah?
You’re not like, a character in the game. More like a ghost — just floating there, fiddling with time, poking around the seven suspects’ lives. You’re unraveling who offed Nikola Tesla. (Seriously, Tesla!) It’s detective work minus the detective badge.
The game hit PCs and PSVR like a storm back in 2017. Critics loved it. Tequila Works, the minds behind it, wanted to take it to Quest in 2020. But, surprise, they closed shop in 2024, never getting to finish that dream. Sad trombone.
Anyway—so, Yescombe thinks the game deserves a comeback. He’s even quoted saying it was the best creative stint of his life. Fans just eat it up even now, blowing up his comments and whatnot. With VR sets being everywhere these days, he’s itching to give it a facelift for today’s gamers.
Since then, Yescombe’s been busy penning stuff like The Twilight Zone VR and Arizona Sunshine 2. Oh, he also wrote for this Netflix film Outside the Wire and some comedy-action flick Jackpot!. Talk about a full plate! Plus, there were stints with Blade Runner and Family Guy. Man’s got range!
Did I get derailed a bit there? Happens. But seriously, keep an eye out for what comes next with The Invisible Hours. Could be epic. Or not. Who knows?
