Wow, okay, picture this: the Switch 2’s screen is kind of… let’s just say it’s not winning any awards anytime soon. Some reviewer called Chimolog from China is talking about this and, honestly, I don’t even know how they got their numbers. No clue about their methods. Anyway, they’re saying the response time is around 17.06 ms on average. That’s like, “Are you even trying?” level slow. It’s got this 1080p, 120 Hz, 7.9-inch LCD setup, which sounds cool until you realize the pixels are basically crawling.
Chimolog mentioned it hits best at 8.88 ms but then drags at 27.46 ms. The screen’s so slow that hitting 60 frames per second is like trying to run in a dream where you just… can’t. They compared it to a bunch of gaming monitors and, surprise surprise, it was the worst one. Like, the kid picked last in gym class.
And then there’s this other screen, some Innocn M2U 27 Mini-LED (fancy name, right?) which blew the Switch 2 out of the water with an 11.06 ms response time. Did you just say “ouch”? Yeah, me too. Nintendo seems to have put all their focus elsewhere on the display, though. Contrast, brightness, color stuff — all supposedly solid. The contrast is at 1309:1, which is… good? I guess. Brightness is 303 cd/m² — sounds bright, yeah?
Weird thing, the text looks fuzzy because of some funky RGB layout they used. Imagine trying to read through someone’s dirty glasses. Not great.
Chimolog couldn’t figure out the 120 Hz performance though, which is a bummer. Apparently, screens get faster when pushed to their limits, but who knows with this one. It’s like getting a speedometer that tops out at 40 when your car can do 120 — not super useful.
Despite all this, folks are snapping it up like hotcakes anyway. Like, 3.5 million sold in four days! Gamers just want their Mario and Zelda fix, you know? Nintendo’s kind of got us by the controllers here. There’s hope for an OLED version, but until then, guess we’re stuck squinting at this blurry, slow screen. Fun times ahead!
