Sure thing. Let’s take a crack at this:

Yuji Horii, one of the brains behind the legendary SNES RPG “Chrono Trigger,” kind of let it slip that he’s “beginning to contemplate” a remake. Or at least, that’s what he sort of hinted after a bunch of folks at this Naples convention started buzzing about it. And yeah, this was after all those whispers and rumors started swirling on social media. It’s funny how things get around, isn’t it?
Okay, let’s rewind a bit. Chrono Trigger first came out on the SNES way back in 1995. It had this so-called “Dream Team” working on it: our guy Horii, the dude behind Final Fantasy, Hironobu Sakaguchi, and the one and only Akira Toriyama, the mind behind Dragon Ball. Picture this – it’s all about time travel, with Crono and his pals trying to save the world. It’s a wild ride through past and future with those unforgettable tunes mostly by Yasunori Mitsuda. It’s nostalgic, and, well, everyone loved it.
Oh! And here’s the thing. Recently, the chatter about a remake was chalked up to some kind of translation goof — you know how those happen. But then, out of nowhere, Horii drops this little gem about mulling over a remake. He’s probably still riding the high from the success of Dragon Quest 3’s HD-2D remake. He said this in Naples, so maybe a bit of that Italian air got him feeling all reflective.
Now, here’s the thing: fan requests are flooding in, especially since 2025 marks 30 years since Chrono’s debut. Time flies, right? But let’s not kid ourselves. So far, there’s nada from Square Enix about kicking off a new version of this classic. As for Horii, he’s neck-deep in Dragon Quest stuff too – new ones on the way for 2025 and Dragon Quest 12 is still a bit hush-hush with details coming out “little by little” – which just feels like forever, doesn’t it?
So yeah, 2025 isn’t just another year. It’s kind of a big anniversary deal for Chrono Trigger. Maybe, just maybe, that’s the time for fans to finally get what they’ve been clamoring for: a modern revamp to play on the latest console or whatever else is out there then. Who knows when or if Square Enix will finally give the green light? But hey, fingers crossed.
