Alright, so here’s a little thought I had while juggling my coffee this morning, and yeah, it’s related to video games. See, someone at the BBC apparently assumed you could slap a NES cartridge into a Super Nintendo. Greg Leahy might have had something to say about that. Not saying I know these folks, but sometimes I wonder who’s writing those headlines.
So, anyway, big week for Nintendo, mostly because everyone’s all hyped up about this Donkey Kong Bananza thingamajig. Honestly, I’m more of a Pac-Man kinda person, especially when he’s adventuring in Shadow Labyrinth, which is somehow weirder than anything in Montreal’s scene, but hey, I’ve been wrong before. Then there’s The Wandering Village, you know, the one where you build a city on a giant creature’s back. Imagine the stomping.
Oh, nearly forgot, we got a new ArcSys fighter in the mix. It’s called HunterxHunter NenxImpact. Drag on? Nope, just drag on (?).
What else… ah, yeah, they’re porting Neverwinter Nights 2. I’ve got some random memory of Golden Tee games too, remastered and all but without trackball support. Major bummer, I’d say. And can we talk about God Wars getting a new publisher? Who saw that coming?
Okay, backing up a bit – stuff we didn’t catch last week. So, Super Dimension Fortress Macross II popped up in the Archives. Maybe not a big deal unless you’re an Aussie Rules fan hoping for a Grand Final between St. Kilda and the Gold Coast. Why? Couldn’t tell you. Something about impossible dreams or licensing? Anyway.
And here’s a kicker – five Dimitris alert! Pineapple: A Bittersweet Revenge is ridiculously priced. Eight bucks in the US, but a mind-boggling eighty in Canada! Who’s in charge of that decision, eh?
Alright, here’s just the rundown for North America, because apparently, my brain can only handle one continent at a time:
– Switch 2 stuff: Donkey Kong Bananza for $69.99. I don’t even have a hundred bucks to spend on nostalgia, but whatever makes you happy.
– Pac-Man: Shadow Labyrinth? $29.99 this Friday.
– Switch 1 too, with HunterxHunter Nen Impact dropping Tuesday for $59.99. Bustafellows Season 2, Upin & Ipin Universe… and a bunch of others like Golden Tee Arcade Classics and The Wandering Village.
– Oh and that crazy expensive Pineapple game for $79.99 too. Canada? I feel for you.
Now, jumping across the pond to Europe – a whole different set of numbers.
– Donkey Kong’s same, but going for €69.99.
– Pac-Man again on Friday for €29.99.
– The rest? Pretty similar, just with that euro twist. Talking HunterxHunter, Bustafellows, Upin & Ipin, and all those quirky little titles I mentioned earlier.
Japan’s in on the fun too, obviously:
– Donkey Kong Bananza stands at ¥7980.
– Pac-Man is ¥3960, and…
– Yeah, tons of other releases just blending into a blur of yen and whimsy.
The chaos of price tags across regions is its own game, wouldn’t you say?
Anyway, quite the messy list, but I guess that’s the gaming life this week. Am I making sense? Who knows? But hey, I wouldn’t mind a sneak peek at that Donkey Kong thing. Or maybe not. See where my morning walks take me, I suppose.
Now, if anyone can relate to that, it’s Google, right?
