Hey there from… wait for it… Cupertino! Yep, the land of Apple, tech dreams, and a bit of sun. Just here for a week, doing meetings and stuff, before hopping over to Berlin for some mentoring gig at XRCC (whatever that means, right?). Anyway, my last week at AWE was nuts – kind of shuffled around like a zombie from Resident Evil (no joke). Fingers crossed for smoother sailing in the Bay Area. Send me some of those good vibes, and oh, here’s the XR scoop from this week!
What’s the Big Buzz?
So, get this – Meta and Oakley might, and I emphasize might, drop some kinda rad glasses on Friday. Rumor mill’s been working overtime about these athletic shades with a front camera. Suddenly, an “oakleymeta” account pops up, and what do you know, there’s a trippy video hinting at June 20 as THE day. Friday launch? Who knew. I thought they’d save this for Meta Connect. But hey, maybe June makes sense – summer’s here, sunglasses are flying off the shelves, and people love a good tech surprise. Can’t wait to see what these gizmos actually do!
Quick Hits You Can’t Miss
Oh Snap! Evan Spiegel (Snap’s head honcho) says next-gen Spectacles, or should I say “Specs” are coming in 2026. Smaller, lighter, packed with more oomph – sounds futuristic, doesn’t it? These won’t be just for creators anymore; everyone can get a piece of the pie. Who knows? Snap might just kick off the race for standalone AR glasses. Game on!
Qualcomm’s New Toy – the AR1+ chip showed up at AWE. Less power suck, AI capabilities packed in. Mega privacy win ‘cause data stays put on the device. Saw a demo and… yep, I was floored. Literally, it was mind-blowing.
Google Tidbits:
- Samsung just might announce Project Moohan’s release date next month. Hear it first here.
- HP’s rolling out a $25k teleconferencing beast called Dimension, based on Google Beam tech. Six cameras, AI magic, and a 65-inch display – whoa. Perfect Christmas surprise, am I right?
- XREAL flashed their Project Aura glasses at AWE – 70° field of view. Hot stuff for AR fans.
Apple’s Vision Pro: More Widget deets dropped – anchor them on walls, choose colors. Games are getting PSVR 2 controller compatibility. Will this change the game? Maybe yes, maybe erm, ask someone with a Vision Pro and controllers…
