Man, HP… they’re at it again. So you remember when they were all like, “Hey, we’re gonna be the first with that cool Google Beam stuff!” It’s honestly kind of wild. And now they’re throwing out this thing called ‘Dimension’. I mean, $25K a piece. No typo. Twenty-five thousand dollars. Imagine casually buying that.
Anyway, this gadget — HP Dimension with Google Beam — has, uh, six cameras. Not five, not seven, but six. They say it creates a super real 3D video of everyone in the chat. I guess it’s like chatting with a hologram buddy, if that makes sense. Imagine eye contact through a screen! Weird thought.
Oh, one more thing… this thing goes on sale for certain partners late 2025. And surprise, surprise — that $25K? It doesn’t even cover the Google Beam license. You gotta buy that separately. Why though? No clue. It’s like buying a car and finding out the engine costs extra.
And there’s techy stuff too — it works with Zoom Rooms, Google Meet, all those big names. So yeah, you can do normal 2D meetings or spice things up with 3D chats. Meetings are still meetings, though.
Helen Sheirbon – yeah, big name at HP, she says something like, “We’re making real-er connections with this.” I mean, sure, but what if I just want to stick to emails and avoid all forms of camera-based interactions? Just saying.
So back in 2021, this was called Project Starlight. Sounds way cooler, right? It had these light-field displays, no glasses needed, giving that whole face-to-face vibe. Kind of cool but also very, I don’t know, ‘Black Mirror’?
HP tested it and found out people talked more non-verbally and improved at taking turns speaking. Neat, I guess. Also, people remembered stuff better. Maybe that’s why I always forget what people said in my Zoom calls. Hmm.
