Okay, so picture this: I’m at PAX East, and there’s this presentation, right? Magic: The Gathering meets Final Fantasy. And man, you should’ve heard the screams. That mix of excitement and surprise — like eating ice cream too fast and getting brain freeze but loving every second of it. They showed off these new packs, and boom — there it was, Chocobos! Who’d have thought a bird that big would be such a thing? But seriously, the cards are inspired by the craziest Final Fantasy spots.
They first teased these cards back in February. But honestly, those teasers were just a taste — like getting a waft of popcorn at the theater. This time, they really laid it all out. Fans can finally get a better sense of what’s coming with the summer release. How all these cards fit together in-game? That’s something different.
Oh, and get this — Yoshitaka Amano, the iconic artist, is back. Honestly, every card he touches turns into art. His new take on Kefka? It’s like, chaotic and genius at the same time — but maybe that’s just me being all artsy about it.
This isn’t Wizards’ first rodeo, either. They’ve got crossovers all over the place now — Marvel, Lord of the Rings, even Spongebob. And Final Fantasy’s gonna be huge. Economy’s doing its wild dance across the globe, but Chris Cocks from Hasbro doesn’t seem fazed. He dropped the mic in April, saying Final Fantasy’s already smashing MTG records for sales. Who knew?
And we’re still waiting for it to drop. June 13 is the big day. If you’re like me and gotta have those packs the moment they hit the shelves, you can already queue up your pre-orders. Just saying.
