Riiiight, so let’s dive in. Switch 2 and Cyberpunk 2077? I mean, who thought that was gonna happen? Not me, for sure. I spent some solid hours fiddling with CD Projekt Red’s latest trick on the Switch 2, and honestly, it left me a bit gobsmacked. The world kinda just sucks you in, doesn’t it? If you’ve been putting off Night City for whatever reason, gotta say, this is a killer way to jump in.
But first, lemme take you back to when I first yapped about Cyberpunk 2077, circa 2020. Oh boy, what a ride that was.
My OG Thoughts on Cyberpunk 2077
The game kinda throws you head-first into this crazy, vibrant urban jungle. So many choices to make! Like, how do you wanna play? Who do you wanna be? All your wild decisions really shake things up for the world and the people buzzing around in it. Some stories hit hard, hit funny, or even dark and thrilling, all in one go. The main quest? Maybe a tad short, and sometimes it’s like, “Wait, how do I change this ending again?” But there’s a pile of side quests ready to blow your mind with new possibilities at the end. Ugh, those bugs though – super annoying mood killers. Still, Cyberpunk 2077 is this crazy flexible RPG that’s hard to forget. Tom Marks, and all that jazz.
Rating was, like, a 9. Click for that full PC review if you’re into that sorta thing.
Anyway — oh, wait, where was I? Oh yeah, right, PC version was cool and all, but man, Xbox One and PS4? Total mess. And hey, lemme just mention the Phantom Liberty DLC in 2023 – solid addition that’s in the Switch 2 package. This port is a rainbow compared to the grim cloud of the old-gen consoles.
On the Switch 2 Glow-Up
At a glance, Cyberpunk’s a looker on the Switch 2. Yeah, I mean, Night City isn’t as crisp as when you crank it up on PC or PS5, but it still pops. More than playable really. Remember The Witcher 3 on Switch 1? That was more like, “Eh, I guess if I have to.” This? This ain’t that.
Frame Rate Shenanigans
Got a thing for the nitty-gritty? Stats-wise, we’re sitting at 1080p docked, 1080p or 720p handheld, and maxed out at 40fps. How fancy! I’m no frame-rate nerd, so anything below 60fps doesn’t bug me much. Docked play is mostly smooth, dropping frames a bit but nothing catastrophic, right? If you’re a 60fps purist, maybe keep scrolling. But if you’ve lived in Switch 1’s world, you’ll adapt just fine.
Switch 2’s Surprise: The Mouse Controls
Honestly, wasn’t expecting much, but using a Joy-Con as a mouse? Surprisingly slick. Makes aiming a breeze compared to a chunky gamepad. Still not your high-end gaming mouse, but let’s face it, for the Switch? It’s ace.
That said… there’s the not-so-small issue of cramps… Tiny Joy-Cons don’t play well with longer sessions. My hand was like, “Dude, give me a break!” And trust me, a 3D-printed shell didn’t save the day. Awkward grips might be the death of this otherwise neat feature.
Motion Assist Misadventures
So, yeah, motion controls — not the best. Aiming and motion fine-tuning works here like it does for Zelda, but some of these motion gimmicks? Um, not so much. Swinging for melee or flinging it to reload is just… let’s say it’s not my jam.
The RPG Shines On
Jumping back in reminded me, this game is something else. All the patches made it even better. This world oozes atmosphere — gritty and alive. Dialogue feels deep, real, and pulls you in. If you skipped out before, I’d say right now’s a golden opportunity.
