Man, Samsung’s Unpacked event is like, always this big deal every year. You know, lots of shiny new tech and whatnot. So, everyone’s guessing they’ll show off these new foldable things – the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7, and yep, another Galaxy Watch too. Heard a whisper on the street, though, that they’re also cooking up this new XR headset. Got an odd name or code or something—Project Moohan.
Right, back in December 2024 or whenever, they were chatting it up about Project Moohan and this groovy Android XR thing. It’s supposed to be the first gadget to run on Google’s new XR OS. Samsung was throwing around some vague timelines, like, “Sometime this year.” But nope, still no clear day on the calendar.
But then you got this “Panda Flash” character—total leak master—saying they might spill the beans about this mixed-reality thing soon. Honestly, was kinda assuming we might hear about Moohan, maybe during Google I/O? Yeah, nada. Samsung’s keeping this one tight-lipped, I guess.
And just random info pouring like crazy. Apparently, Moohan’s gonna first pop up in South Korea, then slowly make its way out to the rest of the world. Sort of like Apple did with its Vision Pro—America first, deal with it.
Been to a few tech events, and yeah, got my hands a bit dirty with a preview of Moohan last December. But Samsung’s been all secretive about what’s inside this XR headset. Still, folks are speculating it’s rocking a Snapdragon XR2 + Gen 2, some fancy micro-OLED panels from Sony (they still haven’t shared the resolution—sneaky!), and these pancake lenses.
Also, you adjust the IPD automatically, supports eye and hand-tracking, and there’s this magnet-thingy light shield. The battery is removable—always handy, right? Oh, and VR motion controllers! Yep, they got those too, but not much on what they’ll look like or do.
Then there’s talk of smart glasses! Samsung’s probably aiming to take a slice out of Meta’s pie with their Ray-Ban smart glasses.
Anyway, gonna keep an eye out for when Samsung finally decides to shout “Go!” on all this stuff. Unpacked is supposed to hit New York early next month. But till then, we’ll just be here, holding onto our hats—or VR headsets, I guess.
