Late last year, Sightful just up and changed its mind. They were all set on this crazy unique laptop with AR glasses built-in, right? But nope, they switched gears and decided to make this AR workspace stuff for Windows instead. So, now they’ve dropped Spacetop for Windows. Imagine turning wherever you are into a private, virtual video game of productivity. Sounds wild, huh?
Remember their old hardware? Yeah, Spacetop was a thing for it, all linked up with those XREAL AR glasses. But now it’s like, “Let’s try this on a bigger set of PCs, shall we?” They’re aiming at machines from Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus, and a bunch of others, so nobody feels left out.
Originally, they were cooking up this ‘headless’ laptop, running on an Android-based thingy called SpaceOS. Gotta say though, back in October 2024, they dropped a bomb by canceling the whole gig, sending refunds for their G1 AR device. Imagine dropping $1,900 and then… whoops, never mind!
They claimed it was the whole neural processing thing – these NPUs boosting the tech’s power and making batteries last longer with AR. Honestly, I might need some NPU power in my life… batteries always dying on me!
Check out this picture of the Spacetop. It’s just… there. I suppose.
Fast forward to now, they’ve laid out this Spacetop Bundle at $899. Sounds fancy, right? You get those XREAL Air 2 Ultra AR glasses (usually $699) plus a Spacetop year-long subscription. But hold on, it’s gonna renew every year for $200. It’s like subscribing to a future, sorta.
Oh, and don’t get me started on the optical lenses. They have these inserts for glasses — $50 if you’re blind in one way and $150 if you’re blind in another. Why do prescriptions have to be this complicated?
They’re recommending laptops from Dell’s XPS Core Ultra 7 (32GB), HP, Lenovo, Asus, and some others. If you’re rocking a machine with Intel Core Ultra processors, you might wanna toss this into your cart. Or not, if you’re broke like most people.
Here’s the kicker though, the features:
You get all your apps; just like at the office but layered in your personal AR space. Seriously, it’s like playing Tetris but with documents. Push ’em around, make space, twist ’em — your call.
Planning a trip? No prob. This thing keeps your workspace floating right with you — plane, train, or your comfy couch.
And the display? Insane. It shifts around with lighting changes, so no more squinting or hunching over.
With $61M in backing and a star-studded team from PrimeSense, Magic Leap, and more, Sightful’s packing some punch. They’re chilling in Tel Aviv with spots in Palo Alto, New York, and Taiwan. If you’re curious, there’s more info somewhere online. Or just Google it.
