Okay, so here’s the thing—Samsung’s been super lowkey about this new headset deal they’re working on. Didn’t even pop up at Unpacked last month or Google I/O before that. Who knows why. Anyway, they’ve got this Android XR-based thing still cooking for this year, or so they say.
So, there was this earnings call a while back, and Samsung’s like, “Yeah, that headset? Still happening.” They’ve got this catchy project name—‘Project Moohan’. But listen, we’re still kind of in the dark. No clue about the real name, release date, or how much money you’ll have to shell out.
Here’s something Daniel Araujo from their mobile wing said, “We’re prepping some next-gen cool stuff, like this XR headset and a TriFold smartphone,” during their Q2 2025 earnings talk. Sounds promising, right?
And speaking of Project Moohan, they’ve been kinda shy with it. Almost hiding it under a rock, if you ask me. It barely made noise at Google I/O. Felt like a missed chance to wow the Android dev crowd out there. You know, the folks who’ll actually be making apps for this Android XR system.
Oh, and about Samsung Unpacked in July—it was a no-show. Yup, and so was the TriFold phone. Puzzles me! Maybe they’re saving all the fireworks for another day. I don’t know, but my gut says another reveal might be coming before the year ends.
What do we even know about this Project Moohan, anyway? So, it’s gonna run with an Android XR on some Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 + Gen 2. The display bits are from Sony—a micro-OLED setup—resolution still a mystery, but it’ll probably look snazzy with those pancake lenses, auto IPD adjustments, and crazy stuff like eye and hand-tracking. Even a detachable light shield and swappable battery are in there. Crazy, right? And yeah, VR motion controllers too, apparently, though no one’s seen them yet.
For the curious cats out there, we dug into Project Moohan last December—check that out for deets on the comfort, display, all that jazz. Android XR seems like a blend of Horizon OS and VisionOS. Yeah, mix-and-match vibes.
So there you go. Chaos and all, but that’s how the cookie crumbles with Samsung’s latest.
