Alright, so here we are again, with Battlefield 6 dropped in all its glory. They had this big worldwide shindig to show it off. A bunch of people were in on it, playing live and all that jazz. Honestly, it felt like being at a chaotic family gathering where every cousin has something to say, ya know?
Anyway, back to what matters—PC gamers. We got to hear about some details. I say “details” like it’s all fun and games, but well, not everyone’s gonna be thrilled.
Interestingly enough, there’s this thing called Javelin Anticheat that they’re bringing in. Sounds fancy, right? It’s like a watchdog lurking in your PC, looking out for cheaters. I guess Javelin was just a twinkle in EA’s eye earlier this year, but it’s been poking around since 2022 in some guise. Kind of like that neighbor you only just met but realize has been living next door for years.
And this is not EA’s first rodeo with it. They’ve snuck it into other games too. Think EA FC or Madden. Yep, same ol’ Javelin. Remember when Battlefield 2042 had that anti-cheat drama? That was Season 6 and now it’s like they’re saying, “Hey, it works, we’ll stick with it.”
Oh, and a heads-up: the upcoming beta’s packing this anticheat as well, so everyone on PC better get ready. Like, Secure Boot in Windows has to be on. It’s geek stuff, but trust me, your PC probably gets it if it’s not a dinosaur.
Kernel-level anticheats? Yeah, they aren’t new. Call of Duty’s got Ricochet doing the same kind of thing. It’s like, you got these invisible guards in your system. Makes some folks uneasy. Feels a bit, I dunno, intrusive? Especially if you’re a Linux fan. But I guess if you wanna catch cheaters, you gotta let the dog roam free, so to speak.
We’ll have to see if this all plays out well when Battlefield 6 actually drops. October 10th is the day marked in red on the calendar for PC, PS5, and Xbox folks. Let’s hope it’s worth the hype.
