So, last night was a bit of a ride with EA’s Battlefield 6 thing. They basically rolled out this huge showcase—you know, all about the multiplayer stuff—and stuck right to what Battlefield fans (or, like, die-hards?) usually care about. Think: the game’s essence or whatever these developers at Battlefield Studios are bringing to the party for the new gaming crowd.
But here’s the catch: as much as they yapped about features, maps, modes — there was this one thing a bunch of us were waiting to see that kinda got left in the shadows.
Oh, wait, maybe I should backtrack a bit. They didn’t exactly leave it out. Just gave us a quick peek, so quick that if you blinked, you’d totally miss it. Yes, I’m talking about this battle royale mode that leaked months ago. Ripple Effect’s handling it (they also did that Battlefield Portal thing).
At the end of all the dev chatter, they threw out this tiny trailer—like, right before they unleashed this army of streamers to drown us in Battlefield 6 gameplay for hours. And the trailer? Well, imagine a bunch of players sprinting from some looming off-screen threat, later revealed as this wild wall of fire. Oh, and vehicles. Lots of them—combat ones too, not that surprising, I guess.
Now, they didn’t flat-out call it battle royale. No mention of Firestorm, but with that fire ring closing in, it screamed “Firestorm 2.0” to a lot of folks, like me. Anyway—oh, right, funny thing—if they do keep the Firestorm name, there’s gonna be some hilarity, especially when you throw in the Operation Firestorm map. Talk about a name game, huh?
Did they tell us if it drops with Battlefield 6 on October 10? Nope. But yay, some lucky Battlefield Labs members get first dibs soon. Whatever it’ll officially be called—Firestorm or whatever—it’s probably free-to-play, like Call of Duty: Warzone. EA’s got this plan about hitting 100 million players, so offering something free makes sense, right?
