Okay, so here’s the deal—I stumbled upon this new game for the Switch 2, Nintendo’s shiny console baby. Ever heard of Drag x Drive? Neither had I, honestly. It’s one of those "what even is this?" titles because, seriously, it involves wheelchair basketball with a side order of mouse control. Didn’t see that coming. Anyway, there’s this new trailer out that pulls the curtain back a bit and, well, I tried to make sense of it.
There’s, like, seven minutes of gameplay footage, and man, the way the controls twist and turn might just tie your brain in knots. Maybe mine’s just frazzled—who knows? Oh, and it’s Drag "and" Drive, not "x" (thanks, trailer). It dives into all sorts of stuff, like tricks and whatnot, and even a peek outside the main arena. Why you’d care about that? Beats me, but it’s there.
So, we chatted about this game on Pure Nintendo, like, what else is there beyond the usual 3-on-3? Turns out, there are minigames thrown in the mix. Could be fun, could crash and burn. Fingers crossed. And, hey, you can square off online or practice solo against bots.
Nintendo’s got this list of what you can get up to:
Jump into online lobbies, mingle with global strangers (fun, right?). The second 6 folks gather, boom, game on! Friend Parks are a thing too, more private, less chaotic. Imagine a hangout place without actual hanging out. Dive into different courts, try some quirky challenges, aim for the top of a leaderboard—because why not?
Solo mode’s a thing too, against computer dudes, I guess. Choose from these three drivers: Guard, Center, Forward. Each one’s got its own vibe. Find your match, or, you know, flounder around a bit. Need a break from hoops? Try zipping around a track in some Circuit Sprint minigame. Or dive into a shooting contest and practice that jump rope for no apparent reason.
Challenges unlock stuff (trophies and such), plus you can deck out your little driver guy. Helmets, armor, tires—all that jazz. Customize ’til you drop.
Are we pumped about these features? I’m curious. Feel like this game might quietly tiptoe its way into being a big deal for Nintendo. Or maybe not—time’s gonna spill it. Anyway, what’s your take from the trailer? Spill the beans, I’m all ears.
Oh, quick shoutout—before the actual launch, there’s a sneak peek setup called the Global Jam on August 9-10. Download the demo, shoot some hoops, flex with friends, yada yada.
August 9, 3 am – 7 am PT
August 9, 5 pm – 9 pm PT
August 10, 9 am – 1 pm PT
Let’s see if this thing’s a slam dunk come August 14. Or if it’ll just fizzle out like a dud firework. Bring on the chaos, I say.
