So, Assetto Corsa EVO… man, this thing showed up earlier this year kinda under the radar in early access, and wow, its VR performance was—well—let’s just say it left a lot to be desired. Maybe they just threw it out there, hoping for the best? Who knows. Anyway, KUNOS Simulazioni decided to come through with a 0.2 update, focusing on making VR less of a head-scratcher.
This new update, which they just tossed at us not too long ago, is like a gift that keeps on giving. Seven new cars, right? Like Maserati GT2 (fancy name), Lotus Exige V6 Cup (sounds fast!), and the classic Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6. Oh, and don’t forget the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA and even the Mazda MX-5. It’s like a car candy store now. To top it off, they’ve added two tracks—Circuit of the Americas and Donington Park. Never been there myself, but I imagine they’ve got some wicked curves.
Then there’s this whole ‘Open Mode’ in single-player. You get to play with all the cars. Imagine that—unlimited access. And ‘Career Mode’ throws in some progression stuff—just what we need, more pressure to perform!
Oh, about that VR stuff—“step two” they call it. Does that mean there’s a step three? Eh, we’ll see. Anyway, they added things like a VR TV camera set (fancy name again), fixed some annoying black glitch on the horizon—I thought it was some avant-garde artistic choice initially! Now there’s something they call DLSS, and yeah, apparently better reflections are a thing now.
Switching from regular screen to VR? Less of a hassle now, thank goodness. No more disabling DLSS, whatever that means. My gaming rig is already sweating trying to keep up, and at least they’re heading in the right direction. Check out the side-by-side graphics view (no pressure)—it’s kind of thrilling in a nerdy way.
Word is, there’s six early access updates on the menu, all leading up to a full 1.0 version by Fall 2025. Gives us plenty of time to keep playing, complaining, and hopefully celebrating. Fingers crossed they smooth out the edges and make sure our $32 is put to good use.
But hey, who am I kidding? I’ll probably keep playing, either way.
