AMD Dismisses Speculations of 32 GB Radeon RX 9070 XT Model

AMD has put to rest recent speculation about a potential Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card boasting 32 GB of memory.

### Frank Azor Clears the Air on RX 9070 XT Specs

There’s been buzz in the gaming community, fueled by a leak from Chiphell, that AMD might be preparing to launch a 32 GB version of their RX 9070 XT this year. This latest gossip suggested that the card would join the ‘Gaming’ series rather than the PRO lineup. However, these whispers have now been silenced. Frank Azor from AMD has directly addressed the rumors in response to a Techpowerup post, clearly stating there are no such plans:

The RX 9070 XT is confirmed to launch with 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Given the card’s specs, bumping it up to 32 GB for gaming purposes wouldn’t have made much sense, as the performance boost would likely be minimal. Earlier rumors suggested that the increased memory might target AI applications, but would still cater to gamers.

Up until now, AMD hasn’t ventured into the market with a 32 GB gaming GPU. Offering such a large memory capacity on a graphics card aimed at the upper-mid range would seem impractical, especially since the card would be unable to fully utilize the extra memory. Expectations are that AMD will stick with a maximum of 16 GB for their RDNA 4 lineup, as the RX 9070 XT, with the Navi 48 GPU, is set to be the flagship model.

Other upcoming models, like the RX 9070 and those based on Navi 44, will have less impressive specs, leading to lower performance levels. February 28th is marked as the day AMD will officially unveil the RX 9000 series, which means we can soon expect to learn all the details about these new GPUs, including pricing and official performance metrics.

Following the official reveal, these cards are slated to hit retail shelves in early March. Coincidentally, this is when NVIDIA plans to introduce their GeForce RTX 5070. Competition between AMD’s and NVIDIA’s 70-class GPUs promises to be intense, and it’ll be interesting to see how the RX 9070 XT fares against NVIDIA’s newest offerings like the RTX 5070 Ti or RX 5070.
