Alright, so here’s the thing. We’re leaving another big gaming bash, the Summer Game Fest 2025, and once again, zilch about Silksong. Nada. I mean, seriously, we got nothing from Team Cherry about their shiny Metroidvania sequel for Xbox Game Pass. How much longer can they string us along? Honestly.
Now, you’d think after six long years since they first told us about Hollow Knight: Silksong in 2019, we’d be used to this sting, right? Nope. This time, Geoff Keighley, the big guy running the show, rubbed some serious salt in the wound. During his intro skit for the new Marvel Games’ Deadpool VR reveal—Neil Patrick Harris as Deadpool, by the way; wild, right?—Keighley took a jab at us hopeful fans. Annoying, but kinda funny if you can still laugh about it.
The goofy part? Keighley read this fake letter from Wade Wilson saying, “Skip the Silksong trailer to talk about my awesome VR game.” Like, ouch, man. No VR headset here, but I’d grab one if it meant escaping this Silksong drought.
Fast forward, or maybe rewind, whatever. Show after show, Team Cherry’s been quiet as a mouse since a nine-second clip teased a 2025 release in a Switch 2 Direct thing. Expectations are hitting the roof, thanks to the original 2017 Hollow Knight being all-time Metroidvania gold. Rather than cool down, the hype’s somehow intensified. It’s another Elden Ring situation, with all of us clinging to scraps of hope. Seriously.
Adding insult? Yeah, their Steam page got a few updates lately, raising eyebrows and hopes for some kinda sneak peek at Summer Game Fest. But nope, no shadow drop, no preorder buzz, nothing. What a bummer.
Oh, right! Before I forget—barely—a glimmer of hope might be shimmering for the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8. You better believe I’m chugging hopium for that. Microsoft usually whips out a few surprises, and with Silksong promised for Game Pass at launch, maybe they’ll hook us up with that sweet release date reveal. Fingers crossed, but not holding my breath, you know?
Even with Xbox’s VP Greenberg telling us not to go overboard with expectations this year… there’s gotta be something big, right? Something like Silksong would just hit the spot. And if not? Well, heartbreak’s nothing new for me—I’m a Bloodborne fan, after all.
